#BCNONPROFITDAY Campaign

WHY JOIN THE CAMPAIGN?

We’re building awareness of BC Non-Profit Recognition Day and shining a light on the incredible work of non-profit organizations across the province.

It’s an opportunity to recognize the non-profit sector’s often overlooked, grassroots response to the social and economic challenges facing our communities — and to share the real stories behind that impact.

It’s a chance to highlight the work of your organization and thank the dedicated non-profit workers and volunteers you know.

By coming together, we can better amplify the essential role non-profits play in our province and ensure their work is seen, valued, and celebrated across British Columbia.

WHO DO WE WANT TO REACH?

We want this message to reach government and public funders, to deepen understanding of the essential partnership between the non-profit sector and public systems in strengthening communities.

We’re also reaching out to non-profit organizations, employees, and volunteers — the people driving impact every day — to celebrate their contributions and connect them through a shared story of purpose and pride.

For individuals considering a career in the non-profit sector, this campaign shines a light on the meaningful, community-centred work and career opportunities the sector offers.

And for the general public, it’s a chance to recognize the often unseen ways non-profits shape daily life across BC — and to inspire support, participation, and gratitude.

October 30 will be proclaimed BC Non-Profit Day – to honour the impactful work of non-profit organizations and gain a deeper understanding of their vital role in supporting communities.

BC Non-Profit Day serves to highlight the sector’s significant but often overlooked contribution to the social and economic fabric of our province – celebrate the frontline champions who work for charities and non-profits in our communities and recognizes the real people who make a difference with their time, talent, imagination, and skills.

The sector’s inherent strength is its grassroots proximity and responsiveness to community needs by delivering essential programs and services – and as a result, they are well positioned to help inform government policies, programs, and funding decisions.

Recognition of the sector complements the ongoing collaborative efforts and partnerships that non-profit and charitable organizations maintain with the government, reinforcing their vital role in our communities.

BC Non-Profit Day also shines a light on the scope and breadth of the sector and motivates people interested in careers dedicated to advancing social change.

There are approximately 32,000 non-profit organizations in BC, when factoring in all community, business, and government non-profits – representing 377,000 jobs and a $31.8 billion contribution to the provincial economy.

    • Government-affiliated non-profits include hospitals, public school boards, universities, and colleges.
    • Business-oriented non-profits include chambers of commerce, as well as business and professional associations.

The 2025 State of BC’s Non-Profit Sector Report – Stretched Thin – highlights four key areas non-profits across the province are experiencing:

      • Facing greater demand for services and more severe community
      • Working through tight financial times, with flat revenues and increasing
      • Prioritizing staff retention and support, as people are at the heart of community impact.
      • Investing in fund development, planning, and governance to adapt under pressure.
